Check an engineer or business is on the Gas Safe Register online, by phone or checking their ID card

Check an engineer online

Check if a gas engineer or business is registered by entering their ID number in the 'Check an engineer' service in the panel on the right of this page.

If the engineer is registered you will be provided with a list of details including:

• A picture of the engineer (if the business has opted in to this service)
• Contact details of the Gas Safe registered business
• What gas work they are qualified to carry out

If a business is registered you will be provided with a list of details including:

• Contact details of the Gas Safe registered business
• What gas work they are qualified to carry out
• Services the company provide (domestic and non-domestic)
• Types of gas they can offer to work with (LPG and natural gas)
• Areas of work they offer

You will also be provided with a link to a list of all gas engineers registered with the business.

If your engineer is not registered, then you can either report them as working illegally by using our 'Report an illegal engineer' service.

Check an engineer by phone

We offer a telephone service for finding and checking registered engineers. Please call 0800 408 5500.

Alternatively to check an engineer simply text Gas then the engineer licence card number to 85080.  You will receive a text message confirming if the licence card number is registered. To check whether a business is registered simply text Gas then the business registration number to 85080. You will receive a text message advising if the registration number is registered.

Check the Gas Safe card

All Gas Safe registered engineers carry a Gas Safe Register ID card, with their own unique licence number, showing the type of work they are qualified to do.  Before any gas work is carried out always make sure you ask to see their card and check the front and the back.
